Can I build a Fence on my property?

Yes, most properties can have a fence.  A fence permit must be obtained and you must follow the City Code.   The maximum height for a fence in the front yard is 3 feet, unless it is chainlink, then 4 feet;  No fence in the rear yard shall exceed 6 feet. (sec. 107-226).

Do I need a permit to repair my deck?

Minor repairs to decks such as replacing a few boards do not require a permit.  Larger repairs, such as installing all new decking, or a new guardrail would require a permit.  It is always wisest to call the building department before you start the work.

How large of a shed can I have?

If your lot is less than an acre - your shed must be under 1000 square feet and you must not cover more than 60% of your yard with buildings (impervious surface).

How long is the permit good for?

A permit is valid for 180 days.

 What is a site plan?

Site plan is a detailed drawing showing all property lines, existing buildings and dimensions, setbacks, wells, pools, drainfield locations, and proposed building location with all setbacks.  The drawing should be to scale.

When they say a setback of ten feet, where does that start from?

When measuring for a setback, start at your property line.  The road or curb may not be the same as your property line.
